Campaign update - Wednesday 20th May 2009 - BBC comes to Stanwell 20/05/2009 No Comments
Another quick update. Over the weekend I had a call from Marc Ashdown, a reporter from BBC Lon
don who wanted to do a piece for BBC London News on the upcoming elections in Stanwell & the Moor.
So last night I met Marc and took him to Britannia Way. Whilst I was talking to the residents, he filmed and I felt very humbled that several residents gave me such glowing endorsements on camera. The film will be shown on BBC London News at 1.30pm & 6.30pm on Thursday 28th May, so I hope that the residents of Britannia Way will be watching out for themselves!
I also took Marc to see some of the local services which form the basis of my pledges in this election.
First stop was Surrey County Council’s closed down day centre, which is left boarded up covered in grafitti and which is greatly missed by the older people of our community. The reason that I took Marc there was because I am committed to seeing Care for Older People improve in Stanwell and that includes fighting for the reopening of a day centre where hot meals can be provided to local residents.
Then it was on to an A2 housing site, to show the dire state that the Housing Association has left some accommodation in. From damp problems to graffiti, and all in the face of rising rent, this is what A2 residents have to put up with. This site illustrated my pledge that I want to make sure that A2 Housing Directors realise their responsibilities and improve both services and repair times for their tenants.
Marc was really pleased with the footage he got from his tour of Stanwell, so make sure that you watch out for it on BBC 1 at 1.30pm & 6.30pm a week on Thursday.
